For generations, the pursuit of higher education has often felt like an elusive dream for many Latino families in Colorado. But thanks to the tireless efforts of the Latin American Educational Foundation (LAEF), this dream is becoming a reality for countless students. LAEF, a non-profit organization founded in 1990, has become a beacon of hope and support for Latino students, providing them with the resources and guidance necessary to navigate the complexities of higher education.

LAEF’s commitment to empowerment is evident in its comprehensive programs. From financial aid workshops to college application guidance, LAEF equips students with the knowledge and tools to succeed. Their mentorship programs, which connect students with successful Latino professionals, provide invaluable guidance and encouragement, fostering a sense of community and belonging. LAEF also collaborates with schools and community organizations, offering workshops on topics such as college preparation, financial literacy, and career planning.

The impact of LAEF’s work is profound. Their alumni have gone on to graduate from prestigious universities across the country, pursuing careers in diverse fields, and becoming leaders in their communities. By empowering Latino students, LAEF is not only shaping individual lives but also contributing to a more equitable and inclusive future for all.

LAEF’s success underscores the vital role that community-based organizations play in breaking down barriers to educational attainment. Their unwavering dedication to empowering Latino students is a testament to the belief that education is the key to unlocking a brighter future for all. As LAEF continues to build bridges to higher education, the future for Colorado’s Latino students looks brighter than ever.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
