Hood College appoints new interim and associate provosts

Frederick, MD – Hood College is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Michael C. Martin as Interim Provost and Dr. Donna Marie Fleming as Associate Provost, effective August 14, 2023. These appointments come at a time of exciting growth and change for the institution, as Hood embarks on its next chapter.

Dr. Martin, a respected scholar and educator, brings extensive experience in higher education administration to the role of Interim Provost. He previously served as Dean of the School of Arts, Sciences, and Education at Hood, demonstrating his deep commitment to the college and its mission. In his new position, Dr. Martin will provide leadership and oversight for the academic affairs of the college, ensuring a smooth transition during the search for a permanent Provost.

“I am honored to be appointed Interim Provost and excited to continue serving Hood College in this new capacity,” said Dr. Martin. “I am committed to working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to ensure the continued success of our academic programs and the overall educational experience at Hood.”

Dr. Fleming, a renowned expert in her field, joins Hood College as Associate Provost. She possesses a wealth of experience in academic leadership, most recently serving as the Dean of the School of Education and Social Work at Salisbury University. Her expertise in curriculum development, faculty development, and assessment will be invaluable as Hood College strives to enhance its academic offerings and foster a vibrant learning environment.

“I am thrilled to join the Hood College community,” stated Dr. Fleming. “I am passionate about student success and look forward to working with colleagues to enhance academic excellence and create a thriving learning community.”

Both Dr. Martin and Dr. Fleming bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to their respective roles. Their appointments are a testament to Hood College’s commitment to academic excellence and its dedication to providing a transformative educational experience for all students.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
