The College of The Albemarle (COA) is proud to shine the Dolphin Spotlight on Jason Banks, a shining example of the dedication and success that thrives within their community. Jason’s story embodies the transformative power of education and the unwavering pursuit of personal growth.

Jason, a native of Elizabeth City, found his passion for learning and career development at COA. He enrolled in the Diesel Technology program, drawn to the hands-on approach and the opportunity to develop practical skills. Jason quickly excelled, demonstrating a natural aptitude for the field and a strong work ethic.

His instructors recognized his dedication and potential, fostering his growth with mentorship and encouragement. Jason’s determination was fueled by his desire to provide a better future for himself and his family. He completed the program with honors, eager to apply his knowledge and skills in the real world.

Now, Jason works as a Diesel Mechanic at a local company, putting his COA education to work every day. He credits the program with not only equipping him with the technical skills needed to succeed but also instilling in him a sense of confidence and professionalism. Jason is a testament to the impact COA has on its students, empowering them to reach their full potential and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Beyond his professional achievements, Jason remains connected to COA. He regularly visits the campus, sharing his success story with current students and serving as a positive role model. His journey serves as an inspiration, demonstrating that with hard work, perseverance, and the support of COA, dreams are within reach.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
