Applying to a medical school can be extremely tricky. Thousands of students from all over dream about going into this field for several reasons; thus, it is vital that you find ways to make your application stand out.

In this article, we will be discussing a few ways to do this. From obtaining a strong MCAT score and high GPA to receiving letters of recommendation from the right people, several methods can make your chances of getting into your school of choice that much higher.

Have A Strong MCAT Score And High GPA

The first and arguably most important thing that you will need to do to increase your chances of getting into medical school is obtain a high GPA in high school.

This will show the various colleges that you are serious about wanting to study in the medical field and have what it takes to succeed.

More so, you will need to do well on your MCAT test to make your application stand out. Again, this will show colleges that you are prepared for the workload of medical school.

Get Letters Of Recommendation From Appropriate People

Using letters of recommendation that come from the right people is a huge bonus for your chances of being accepted. For example, it would look much better to have a letter from your science teacher than it would to have one from your mother.

More so, if you have attended any medical internships or shadowings, ask the person in charge if they could write you a recommendation.

Show Signs Of Clear Research In Your Application Essay

Your application essay plays a significant role in whether or not you are accepted into medical school. Because so many students apply, the colleges have to have high standards when making their selections.

For this reason, showing signs of clear research in your application essay can show the colleges that you know exactly what you are getting into and are prepared for what is ahead.

For example, write about what field you want to go into eventually, why you want to go into it, and what qualities have drawn you to that particular college.

Concluding Thoughts

You must find ways to make your medical school application stand out from the others. To do this, you need to ensure that you obtain a strong MCAT score and high GPA.

You should also ask the appropriate people if they can write you letters of recommendation. Finally, make sure that you show clear signs of research in your essay.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
