Congratulations! If you represent a college or university that is included in this list, please collect your seal below.

Official seal of the University of California, Berkeley.

Deciding which college to attend can be a daunting task. For many, it will be the most important decision that they make in their lives. To make an informed decision, you have to consider a lot of variables, such as cost of attendance, financial aid, student/teacher ratio, academics, student life, and more. These factors will either positively or negatively impact the quality of education that you receive.

Do you want to acquire a doctorate in sociology, but don’t know what institution you should attend? Well, if you are as ambitious as I was in my late teens, then you want to attend a top school, instead of an average or mediocre one. Fortunately, we have already done the legwork for you. To help you find the right school for your interests and goals, we’ve compiled a list of 2022’s best doctorate in sociology programs.

What institution did we forget? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.

  1. University of California, Berkeley, CA

The graduate degree program in sociology receives about 385 applications annually and grants admission to about 25 learners per year. The American Sociological Association hosts competitions for the top dissertation in sociology, and Berkeley learners have won six of the past 24 awards. The school has a PhD in sociology along with a dual PhD degree program in sociology and demography.

  1. University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI

The sociology department offers its learners with options to study concepts including aging, economic sociology, social stratification, organizational and occupational analysis, the sociology of law and society, and sociology of the family. Learners enrolled in the PhD degree program earn a master of science in sociology on the path to completing the PhD.

  1. Harvard University, Cambridge, MA

The school has PhD degrees in sociology, sociology and social policy, and organizational behavior. Doctoral learners can select concentrations and work with faculty that has expertise in that field. The degree program includes classwork on theory, along with qualitative methods.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
