Congratulations! If you represent a college or university that is included in this list, please collect your seal below.

The official seal of the University of California, Berkeley.

Deciding which college to attend can be a daunting task. For many, it will be the most important decision that they make in their lives. To make an informed decision, you have to consider a lot of variables, such as cost of attendance, financial aid, student-teacher ratio, academics, student life, and more. These factors will either positively or negatively impact the quality of education that you receive.

Do you want to acquire a master’s in electrical engineering but don’t know what institution you should attend? Well, if you are as ambitious as I was in my late teens, then you want to attend a top school, instead of an average or mediocre one. Fortunately, we have already done the legwork for you. To help you find the right school for your interests and goals, we’ve compiled a list of 2022’s best master’s in electrical engineering programs.

What institution did we omit from this list? Leave your suggestions in the comment section below.

  1. MIT, Cambridge, MA

The Computer Science Department at MIT has an MS in electrical engineering degree that is unparalleled. At MIT, learners will apply physical and computational approaches to technical models and programs. Other opportunities at MIT include teaching assistantships, laboratory fellowships, and research assistantships.

  1. Stanford University, Stanford, CA

One of the world’s most prominent institutions, Stanford, is home to over 16,000 learners who are enrolled in one of the many highly rated colleges. It is situated near Silicon Valley and has, therefore, become a premier spot for technology and business development.

The MS in electrical engineering degree program has a highly customizable curriculum, and learners can even earn a dual degree in engineering and business or law. This degree program can take as few as 18 months to finish and focuses on three core research areas: physical technology and science, information systems and science, and hardware/software systems.

  1. Cornell University, Ithaca, NY

Cornell offers a broad-based education in engineering. The master’s in engineering degree program gives learners an individualized curriculum while also allowing them to investigate interdisciplinary research concepts. Learners can design their degree program or select from one of the provided tracks in bio-electrical engineering; solid-state devices, electronics, and photonics; computer engineering and digital systems; or information, systems, and networks.

  1. Columbia University, New York, NY

The graduate electrical engineering programs at Columbia offers various ways to specialize. It is a customizable degree that enables learners to pursue their individual goals. Learners take core electrical engineering classes as well as classes in other engineering majors. Some areas of focus consist of devices, electromagnetics, and photonics; circuits, electronics, and computer engineering; signals, systems, and control; and more.

  1. Cal Tech, Pasadena, CA

At Caltech, learn can earn a master’s in electrical engineering in one year. This fast-paced (but substantive) degree program gives learners a foundation in circuits, systems, and mechatronics. Coursework will include the study of circuits and systems, principles of microprocessor systems, multidisciplinary systems engineering, and energy technology and policy.

  1. University of California at Los Angeles, Los Angeles, CA

The UCLA graduate engineering degree program can be finished online. This degree program is very comparable to the on-campus engineering programs but offers more flexibility. Classes include the study of physics for electrical engineers, logic design of digital systems, digital signal processing, and analog electronics. UCLA has graduated dozens of Field Medalists, Nobel laureates, and Turing Award winners.

  1. Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN

At Purdue, learners can earn an MS in electrical engineering online or on-campus. Whichever route they choose, this world-renowned degree program will adequately prepare them for a lucrative career in systems designs. Coursework will include the study of hybrid electric vehicles, digital signal processing, electromechanics, and computer network systems.

  1. University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA

USC’s renowned Viterbi School of Engineering offers an adaptable MS in electrical engineering degree that can be earned online or on campus. This degree program instills the professional skills that learners need to succeed in competitive industrial, entrepreneurial, academic, or governmental settings. Learners may choose from a wide range of specialty areas including computer networks, electric power, multimedia and creative technologies, or VLSI design.

  1. University of Maryland – College Park, College Park, MD

UM’s MS in electrical and computer engineering degree is interdisciplinary. Learner will work with many departments across the renowned Clark School of Engineering, including the physics, chemistry, and computer science departments. And there are nearly a dozen concentration areas to select among, including control, robotics, and dynamical systems; signal processing; communications and networking; and electronic materials and devices.

  1. North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC

NCSU’s MS in electrical engineering degree is one of the best in the nation. Learners not only get hands-on experience, but they also won’t break the bank either. And NCSU has many ways for learners to specialize, including these concentrations: microwave circuits and applied electromagnetics; power electronics and power systems; robotics, mechatronics, control, and instrumentation; and signal processing and computational intelligence.

  1. Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA

Virginia Tech has an MS in electrical engineering degree that is highly respected throughout the world. Learners can specialize in communications, electromagnetics, circuits and systems, power, photonics, or systems, and controls. The program offers an array of distinct classes, such as advanced fiber optics and applications, introduction to electro-optics, power semiconductor devices, and phase-locked loops: theory and practice.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
