Overview of Western Illinois University

Western Illinois University is a public institution situated in Macomb with a second campus in Moline, Illinois. The institution has a large selection of 66 undergraduate degree programs for students to select from. Students are supported by a 13 to 1 student/faculty ratio, and professors take a personalized approach to the teaching and learning process. Outside of the classroom, students will find plenty of opportunities to engage with the campus community via the university’s over 250 clubs and organizations, including 21 fraternities and 9 sororities. The Western Illinois Leathernecks play in the NCAA Division I Summit League. Football plays in the Missouri Valley Football Conference.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
