Oakland, a city brimming with talent and potential, faces a stark reality a staggering child illiteracy rate. But amidst the challenge, a beacon of hope shines in the form of Ayesha and Steph Curry. The Golden State Warriors star and his chef wife are taking a stand, focusing their philanthropic efforts on combating this issue.

Through their Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation, the Currys are actively addressing literacy in Oakland. They are funding programs that provide access to books, educational resources, and literacy-focused activities for underprivileged children. The foundation’s approach is holistic, recognizing that literacy is not just about reading and writing, but also about fostering a love of learning and creating a supportive environment.

The Currys understand the importance of early literacy development. They believe that every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential, and that literacy is the cornerstone of future success. Their initiative has sparked a wave of support from the community, highlighting the urgent need for action and the powerful impact of individual contributions.

While the problem is complex, the Currys’ dedication and commitment are undeniable. Their vision is clear: to create a brighter future for Oakland’s children, one book, one story, one child at a time. By empowering young minds with the power of literacy, they hope to create a generation of empowered, informed, and successful individuals. The Curry couple’s involvement serves as a powerful reminder that even the smallest action can ignite positive change, and their unwavering commitment to literacy could be the catalyst that unlocks a brighter future for Oakland’s children.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
