1. Rubber Band Helicopter: Create a simple flying machine by attaching a rubber band to a propeller made from paper clips. Twist the rubber band, release, and watch it soar!

2. Straw Rocket: Construct a rocket using a straw, paper, and tape. Blow into the straw to launch the rocket and observe how far it can travel.

3. Paper Bridge Challenge: Use paper and paper clips to build a bridge that can support the weight of small objects. Test the strength of your bridge by placing items on top.

4. Pencil Circuit: Create a simple circuit using a pencil, paper, and LED light. Draw a line with a graphite pencil and attach the LED to see it light up.

5. Balloon Power Car: Build a car using a cardboard base, straws, and a balloon. Inflate the balloon and release the air to propel the car forward.

6. Magnet Maze: Design a maze using a metal tray and paper clips. Use a magnet underneath the tray to guide a metal object through the maze.

7. Lemon Battery: Make a battery using a lemon, copper coin, and zinc nail. Connect wires to the coin and nail to power a small LED or digital clock.

8. Paperclip Compass: Magnetize a paperclip by rubbing it against a magnet. Place the paperclip on a floating object, such as a leaf in water, and observe it align with Earth’s magnetic field.

9. Rubber Band Guitar: Stretch rubber bands across a shoebox lid to create different pitches. Pluck the rubber bands with your fingers to produce musical sounds.

10. Paper Airplane Challenge: Experiment with different paper airplane designs using standard office paper. Test how different folds and shapes impact flight distance and stability.

These STEM experiments can be performed with ordinary office supplies, allowing you to explore scientific principles and unleash your creativity without needing specialized materials. Enjoy the process of discovery and have fun exploring the world of science right in your own workspace!

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
