1. Exploding Pumpkins: Create a chemical reaction by dropping a few pieces of Pop Rocks candy into a hollowed-out pumpkin filled with vinegar. Watch as the pumpkin starts fizzing and foaming!

2. Candy Corn Catapults: Use Popsicle sticks, rubber bands, and a plastic spoon to build a catapult. Launch candy corns and see how far they can go!

3. Gummy Worm Slime: Mix together liquid starch and gummy worms for a slimy and stretchy concoction. It’s a creepy-crawly sensory experience!

4. Skittles Rainbow: Arrange Skittles in a circle on a plate and carefully pour warm water in the center. Watch as a colorful rainbow forms right before your eyes!

5. M&M Chromatography: Place M&M candies on a coffee filter and add a few drops of water. Observe as the colored dyes separate and form unique patterns!

6. Candy Bar Sink or Float: Fill a tub with water and drop different candy bars one by one. Observe which ones sink and which ones float. Does the size or density of the candy bar predict its behavior?

7. Exploding Soda: Drop Mentos candies into a bottle of soda and stand back! The rapid release of carbon dioxide creates an explosive soda fountain.

8. Sour Patch Kids Volcano: Create a volcano using baking soda, vinegar, and red food coloring. Drop in some Sour Patch Kids and watch as they “erupt” out of the volcano!

9. Melting Colors: Place different colored M&Ms or Skittles in a dish and pour warm water over them. Observe as the candy coating dissolves and creates swirling colors.

10. Candy Corn Density Tower: Layer different types of candy corn in a clear container, with the most dense at the bottom. Learn about density as you stack them up and see which ones float or sink.

11. Candy Experiments: Cut or crush various candies and observe how they react to different substances like water, vinegar, or heat. Have fun discovering their unique properties!

12. Edible Slime: Combine marshmallows, cornstarch, and a little water to create a non-sticky and edible slime. Add some candy pieces for extra flavor and texture!

13. Ghostly Reactions: Drop Pop Rocks or other fizzy candies into a glass of clear soda. Watch as the candies bubble up and create a spooky, ghostly effect!

Enjoy these Halloween candy experiments and have a frightfully fun time exploring the science behind your favorite treats!

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
