Being a middle school teacher is one of the best jobs ever! Here are 12 reasons why:

1. Making a difference: Middle school is a critical period in a student’s development, and as a teacher, you have the opportunity to shape their lives and help them become the best version of themselves.

2. Building relationships: Middle schoolers are at an age where they are forming their identity and seeking guidance. By building strong relationships with your students, you can provide them with the support and mentorship they need.

3. Teaching diverse subjects: Middle school teachers often have the opportunity to teach a wide range of subjects, from English and math to science and social studies. This variety keeps your job interesting and allows you to enhance your knowledge in different areas.

4. Witnessing growth: Middle school is a transformative time for students. As a teacher, you get to witness firsthand their growth academically, socially, and emotionally.

5. Fostering curiosity: Middle schoolers are naturally curious and eager to learn. By encouraging their innate curiosity, you can spark their interest in various subjects and inspire a lifelong love of learning.

6. Developing critical thinking skills: Middle school is a crucial stage for developing critical thinking skills. As a teacher, you can design engaging lessons that challenge your students’ thinking and help them become analytical thinkers.

7. Making learning fun: Middle schoolers thrive in an environment where learning is interactive and enjoyable. Incorporating games, group activities, and hands-on experiments into your lessons will keep your students engaged and excited about learning.

8. Building resilience: Middle school can be a challenging time for many students as they navigate adolescence. By providing a supportive and nurturing classroom environment, you can help them build resilience and overcome obstacles.

9. Celebrating success: As a middle school teacher, you have the opportunity to celebrate your students’ achievements, both big and small. Whether it’s acing a test or showing growth in a particular subject, acknowledging their efforts boosts their confidence and self-esteem.

10. Preparing for high school: Middle school acts as a bridge between elementary and high school. By equipping your students with the necessary skills and knowledge, you set them up for success in their future academic endeavors.

11. Collaborating with colleagues: Teaching middle school often involves collaborating with fellow educators to plan lessons and share best practices. This collaborative environment allows you to learn from others and develop professionally.

12. Building lifelong learners: Ultimately, being a middle school teacher means instilling a passion for learning in your students. By nurturing their curiosity and providing a positive learning experience, you contribute to shaping their future as lifelong learners.

In conclusion, teaching middle school is incredibly rewarding. The impact you make on your students’ lives is immeasurable, and the joy of witnessing their growth and success is unmatched.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
