How to Check if Your Nintendo Switch is Moddable

Introduction:

The Nintendo Switch has become an extremely popular gaming console since its release in 2017. One aspect that has piqued the interest of many gamers is the ability to modify or “mod” their systems to unlock various new features and applications. However, it’s essential to note that modding your device can potentially lead to security vulnerabilities and may void your warranty. In this article, we’ll explore a few simple steps that can help you check if your Nintendo Switch is moddable.

1. Identify Your Console’s Serial Number:

The first step in determining whether your Nintendo Switch is modifiable is to locate the serial number of your console. You can find this printed on the bottom of the device, near the USB-C port, or in the Settings menu under “System” (Serial Information). Make a note of the serial number for reference.

2. Compare Your Serial Number to Known Moddable Ranges:

Once you have your console’s serial number handy, consult online databases that provide known moddable serial number ranges. It’s important to keep in mind these databases aren’t foolproof since Nintendo may update their hardware without announcing it publicly, making it harder for unauthorized modifications.

A well-known resource is “ismyswitchpatched.com,” where users input their console’s serial number to quickly determine whether their device falls within a patchable range or not.

3. Check System Firmware Version:

Another factor that affects modding capabilities is the system firmware version. Some software exploits were patched by Nintendo over time, making consoles running specific firmware versions unable to be modified.

You can check the current firmware version on your Nintendo Switch by navigating to “System Settings” > “System” > “Current System Firmware.” This information will help you know if certain software exploits are available for modding on your device.

4. Research Compatible Exploits and Modifications:

Once you know the serial number range and firmware version, you should be able to determine if your console can be modified. Be sure to double-check by researching various exploits and modifications compatible with your Switch’s serial number and firmware version.

Several online forums, such as GBAtemp.net, offer helpful information about modding possibilities and tutorials for the Nintendo Switch. Always take caution when following tutorials to avoid bricking your device or encountering security risks.

Conclusion:

Checking if your Nintendo Switch is moddable may seem daunting, but following these simple steps will help guide you in the right direction. Remember that modifying your console comes with risks like voiding your warranty and potential hacking vulnerabilities. Always exercise caution and research thoroughly before attempting any modifications to your console.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
