Members of the University of Phoenix Accessibility Team recently made a significant impact at a major higher education conference, advocating for and promoting accessibility practices within the academic landscape. Their presence at the conference served as a crucial platform to share their knowledge, raise awareness, and foster meaningful dialogue on creating inclusive learning environments.

The team’s presentations focused on a range of topics critical to accessibility in higher education. These included:

Best practices for implementing accessible course materials and technologies: Team members shared concrete strategies and tools for ensuring that course content, including lectures, readings, and assessments, is accessible to all students. This included highlighting the importance of using alternative text formats, captioning videos, and adhering to accessibility guidelines for digital materials.

Building a culture of accessibility: The team emphasized the importance of fostering a campus-wide culture that values inclusivity and recognizes the needs of diverse learners. This included strategies for engaging faculty, staff, and students in accessibility initiatives, promoting awareness through training and outreach, and fostering collaborative problem-solving.

Leveraging technology to enhance accessibility: The team showcased innovative technologies that can be used to enhance accessibility for students with disabilities. This included assistive technologies, adaptive learning platforms, and virtual learning environments designed to meet individual needs.

By sharing their expertise and best practices, the University of Phoenix Accessibility Team made a significant contribution to the conference. They not only raised awareness about accessibility issues in higher education but also provided practical solutions and inspired attendees to implement positive changes in their own institutions. Their participation is a testament to the University’s commitment to providing an inclusive and equitable learning experience for all students.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
