Do you want a break from the hustle and bustle of Chicago city? Perhaps, a weekend getaway near Chicago with your loved ones will do the trick.

There are various resorts around the city where you can relax and explore the wonders of nature. And the good thing is that you can quickly arrive at any of them via a quick road trip.

With so many options available, it may be difficult to settle for one. But not to worry; I’ve curated a list of family resorts near Chicago that you will love.

  1. Indian Lakes Hotel 

Who should stay here 

With over 7000 sq. feet, Indian Lakes is an ideal location for all kinds of events – family get-togethers, weddings, and official meetings.

The hotel has various amenities, such as a fitness room, swimming pools, and babies’ cribs. Also, this hotel is pet-friendly if you’re traveling with a pet.

Indian Lakes Hotel serves a complimentary continental breakfast, and there are various nearby dining options where your family can enjoy mouthwatering dishes.

Distance from Chicago 

Indian Lakes Hotel is 28 miles from downtown Chicago. If you are driving through I-290 E, you should arrive within 20 – 30 minutes. Also, if you’re coming from the O’Hare International Airport, the hotel is 20 mins away via I-90 E.

  1. The Abbey Resort 

Who should stay here

Established in 1963, The Abbey Resort features modern facilities that cater to all categories of visitors, including families. Your kids and teens will enjoy various indoor and outdoor activities.

There are indoor and outdoor pools with toys, towels, and comfy chairs dedicated to kids. Adults can take a few laps in the adult pools or move to the spa section for a good treat. The resort also has an entertainment center where you can watch movies or play games like air hockey, billiards, and board games.

Parents who love to shop can explore the Waterfront gift shop. You will find an amazing jewelry collection, toys and games for children, and resort wear.

Distance from Chicago 

The Abbey resort is 84.7 miles away from Chicago via I-90 W. You should arrive within one hour and thirty-three minutes if you’re driving.

  1. Eaglewood Resort and Spa 

Who should stay here

Eaglewood is a family-style hotel. It is conveniently located close to Chicago, making it one of the best options for people who want a quick getaway.

The resort villas and suites can accommodate large families. They are also pet-friendly.

Whether you want a massage or just want some fun, there is something for everyone. Your kids can play in the pool while teens can play tennis, billiards, and bowling in the game room.

Also, if golf is your thing, there is an extensive golf course and a golf simulator center where you won’t just have fun but also make new friends.

Eaglewood is 25.6 miles away from Chicago. It takes about 44 minutes if you are driving through I-290 E.

The resort features various amenities such as indoor and outdoor swimming pools, an arcade, a fitness center, an indoor whirlpool, and a spa. There’s also a kid club for ages 4 – 10.

The dining experience in Osthoff is worth it. You can order American cuisine for breakfast, lunch, or dinner from the comfort of your room. And if you prefer to eat out, several restaurants in the resort offer regional and traditional menus.

Osthoff is 150 miles from Chicago, meaning a drive through 1-94 E will take 3 hours.

  1. Lincolnshire Marriott Resort 

The beautifully landscaped Lincolnshire is a home away from home with plenty of activities for children and adults.

You can relax in the outdoor pool with your favorite beverage or snacks and then eat your meal by a fireside in the evening.

The kids can stay entertained with movies and video games while adults can experience the golf course, musical theater, and fitness center. And when you need to unwind, the spa is your private sanctuary.

The distance from Chicago to Lincolnshire Marriott Resort is 33.6 mi (1-hour drive) via I-94 W.

  1. Illinois Beach Resort

Located between Chicago and Milwaukee, the Illinois Beach Resort offers a unique view of the sandy beaches.

You can stroll along Lake Michigan’s shores, relax in the sun, or have your kids build a sand castle for you. The rooms and suites are large and comfortable, especially since you’re traveling with the family.

Illinois Beach Resort is 47.5 miles from Chicago. This is about 1 hour and 29 minutes drive through I-94 W.

  1. Chestnut Mountain Resort

Who should stay here

Open 7 days a week, Chestnut Mountain Resort has a long list of activities for your kids. There is a Children’s Center where you can register your kids for ski and snowboard lessons. They can also experience biking in the mountains with close supervision if they are below 18.

You and the kids will enjoy cruising on the Mississippi river. It’s a great opportunity to learn geography and history and view wildlife.

Chestnut Mountain Resort is 3 hours 22 minutes from Chicago via US-20 W and I-90 W.

  1. WorldMark Galena 

Why should stay here 

You can’t get bored in WorldMark Galena because there are tons of fun activities to engage in. The resort has various amenities such as a shopping mall, games room, laundry facilities, sauna, Jacuzzi, and swimming pools.

The suites are large enough to make your stay comfortable. There’s also a picnic area and a restaurant.

WorldMark Galena is on 5129 West Longhollow Road. It is 175.3 miles from Chicago, and the trip takes about 3 hours and 21 minutes.

  1. Timber Ridge Lodge & Waterpark 

Who should stay here

Make an adventure out of your family vacation when you lodge at Timber Ridge. The Adventure Center features activities such as hiking, biking, and archery.

You can even rent a scooter, go shopping, and eat in one of the resort’s restaurants. Smokey’s Bar-B-Que House has something for the entire family. You may also want to check out Hungry Moose Food Court for a quick snack.

Timber Ridge has an E-Club where members can access discounts and special offers.

Distance from Chicago 

The fastest route to Timber Ridge from Chicago is I-94 W. The trip is about 2 hours and 9 minutes.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
