3 Campus Cloud Issues That Your Institution Should Expect

Cloud computing is a popular method of storing and sharing data and essential documents. In fact, most schools and college campuses use the cloud for academic and administrative purposes.

There are a few challenges that your college should expect to face when using this innovative tech. In this piece, we will be examining these issues and how you can avoid them.

Internet Failures

One of the main issues associated with cloud computing is internet failures. To gain access to the data and information stored on the web, you need to have an internet connection. If the college experiences internet problems, the learners and educators can’t work on the cloud.

There is nothing that can be done about internet failures. Most of the time, the internet service provider is responsible for these issues.

Security of Data

Most people avoid using the cloud to store and share extremely valuable information, as they are concerned about security risks. Even though cloud computing is safe and secure, hackers can access your account. Virus attacks are common with cloud computing.

College campuses should plan for threats. They can accomplish this by using VPNs, firewalls and other privacy software.

The Cost of Cloud Management

Cloud management costs are more expensive than the cost of subscribing to a cloud computing service. Major institutions will spend a large sum of money maintaining their cloud and ensuring sufficient security for all learners and educators. Most colleges hire a specific network team to deal with any cloud-related issues and problems.

Avoiding These Problems

Even though colleges can encounter issues when using cloud computing to store and share school work, there are ways in which these issues can be prevented. For example, colleges should ensure that they get their WiFi from a reliable internet service provider to prevent internet failures. There are lots of network security software, such as firewalls, that can prevent hacking threats and virus attacks.

Campuses should face this challenge to reduce any potential damage. I should note, however, that there is never any absolute safety guarantee when using the cloud to store data and information.

Conclusion

College campuses can encounter challenges when using cloud computing to share and store essential school work and data. Although there are ways in which the institution can reduce the risk of these issues, they should still be prepared to minimize any potential damage caused by them.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
