Are you a high school teacher looking to liven up your classroom? Look no further! In this article, we will present you with 20 creative decorating ideas for high school classrooms that are sure to inspire both you and your students.

1. Themed Reading Nook: Create a cozy reading corner in your classroom with bookshelves, bean bags, and fairy lights. Choose a theme that reflects the interests of your students, such as fantasy, adventure, or mystery.

2. Inspiring Quotes Wall: Hang up inspiring quotes on colorful paper or posters to motivate and uplift your students throughout the day. Change them up periodically to keep things fresh.

3. Class Rules Collage: Instead of simply listing your class rules on a poster, have your students create a collage that represents each rule. This will foster a sense of ownership and responsibility within the class.

4. Classroom Tree: Paint a tree on one of the classroom walls and encourage students to create leaves with their names or positive messages written on them. This will help foster a sense of community among your students.

5. DIY Whiteboard Tables: Cover your classroom tables with whiteboard paint, allowing students to write directly on the tables during group work or brainstorming sessions.

6. Interactive Word Wall: Create a word wall where students can add new words or definitions. Make it interactive by including small whiteboards for students to write sentences using the displayed words.

7. Colorful Bulletin Boards: Use bright and vibrant colors for your bulletin boards to make them visually appealing. Change them up regularly to showcase student work or display important information.

8. Themed Classroom Door: Decorate your classroom door based on a theme, such as famous authors, historical events, or popular movies. This will grab the attention of students and passersby.

9. Hanging Mobiles: Hang colorful mobiles from the ceiling with positive words or affirmations written on them. The gentle movement will create a calming atmosphere in your classroom.

10. Student Art Gallery: Dedicate a wall or bulletin board to showcase your students’ artwork. Encourage creativity by organizing regular art contests or projects.

11. Growth Mindset Corner: Create a dedicated space in your classroom that emphasizes the importance of a growth mindset. Display quotes, books, and posters that encourage your students to embrace challenges and learn from their mistakes.

12. Classroom Library Organization: Arrange your classroom library in an inviting and appealing manner. Use book bins, labels, and cozy seating areas to encourage your students to explore and enjoy reading.

13. STEM Corner: Set up a dedicated area in your classroom for STEM activities. Include hands-on projects, building blocks, and problem-solving challenges to engage your students in scientific exploration.

14. Travel-themed Classroom: Bring the world into your classroom by decorating it with maps, globes, and flags from different countries. This will spark curiosity and inspire a love for learning about other cultures.

15. Scented Candles: Incorporate scented candles into your classroom decor to create a calming and welcoming atmosphere. Choose scents that promote focus and relaxation, such as lavender or citrus.

16. Flexible Seating: Instead of traditional desks and chairs, provide various seating options like bean bags, floor cushions, or standing desks. This will give students the freedom to choose where they work best and promote collaboration.

17. Wall Murals: Collaborate with your students to create a mural on one of the classroom walls. This collective art project will not only enhance the visual appeal but also foster a sense of community and ownership.

18. Classroom Calendar: Design a colorful and interactive classroom calendar that helps students stay organized and aware of upcoming events or deadlines.

19. Inspirational Posters: Display motivational posters with inspirational quotes or images around your classroom. These visual reminders will encourage your students to stay focused and motivated.

20. Interactive Tech Corner: Create a designated space in your classroom for technology-related activities. Include tablets, coding games, and educational apps to enhance your students’ digital literacy skills.

By implementing these creative decorating ideas into your high school classroom, you are sure to create an engaging and inspiring environment for both teaching and learning. So go ahead, get creative, and watch as your students thrive in their new vibrant surroundings!

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
