Chapter 1: 14 Adorable DIY Bookmarks That Will Make Reading Even More Fun

Reading is a delightful escape into another world, and a good bookmark can enhance that experience by adding a personal touch. Making your own bookmarks can be a fun and creative project, and the best part is that they can be customized to reflect your personality or favorite themes. Here are 14 adorable DIY bookmarks that will not only help you keep your place in your book but will also brighten up your reading routine.

Section 1: Crafty Paper Bookmarks

1. Painted Watercolor Bookmarks:

Get inspired by the vibrant hues of watercolor paint. You can use a simple sheet of watercolor paper, brush on different colors, and let them blend. Once dry, cut them into bookmark-sized strips. Optionally, add quotes or doodles with a fine-tip marker to make them even more special.

2. Stamped Bookmarks:

Using rubber stamps and ink pads, create unique designs on cardstock. Choose motifs that resonate with you, such as flowers, animals, or geometric patterns. You can even write motivational quotes or book-related phrases on them.

3. Collage Bookmarks:

Gather old magazines, newspapers, and scrap paper to create a collage bookmark. Cut out images and words that inspire you, and glue them onto a sturdy piece of paper. This is a fantastic way to express your creativity and make something truly one-of-a-kind.

Section 2: Nature-Inspired Bookmarks

4. Leaf Bookmarks:

Preserve the beauty of nature by using real leaves. Simply press fresh leaves between the pages of a heavy book until they are dry. Once dried, you can glue them onto a sturdy piece of paper or laminate them for durability. These bookmarks will add a touch of the outdoors to your reading experience.

5. Flower Press Bookmarks:

Similar to the leaf bookmarks, this project involves pressing flowers between book pages. Choose small, flat flowers like violets or daisies. Once dried, attach them to a bookmark base and consider adding a protective layer of clear contact paper or laminating them.

Section 3: Fun and Whimsical Bookmarks

6. Animal Face Bookmarks:

Create adorable animal bookmarks by cutting out animal faces from colored paper or cardstock. You can draw or print various animal features and glue them onto a long strip. These playful bookmarks are sure to bring a smile to your face every time you pick up your book.

7. Pom-Pom Bookmarks:

Add a little fluff to your reading experience with pom-pom bookmarks. Simply cut a long strip of felt or sturdy paper, and attach colorful pom-poms at the top. You can mix and match colors for a fun, textured look that will stand out in your book.

8. Monster Bookmarks:

For a playful twist, design bookmarks that look like cute monsters. Use colorful paper to cut out monster shapes, complete with eyes, teeth, and hands. These whimsical bookmarks will not only hold your page but will also add a fun element to your reading routine.

Section 4: Functional and Stylish Bookmarks

9. Magnetic Bookmarks:

Create your own magnetic bookmarks using small magnetic strips and decorative paper. Cut out fun shapes or designs and attach the magnetic strips to the back. These bookmarks will hold your place securely and can be easily removed without damaging the pages.

10. Ribbon Bookmarks:

For a simple yet elegant option, use ribbon to create bookmarks. Cut a length of ribbon and attach a charm or bead at one end. This style is not only functional but also adds a touch of sophistication to your reading experience.

Section 5: Creative and Interactive Bookmarks

11. Bookmark with a Built-in Pencil:

Combine functionality with creativity by making bookmarks that hold a small pencil. Cut a strip of cardstock and attach a pocket at the bottom to hold a mini pencil. You’ll never be without a writing instrument to jot down notes or quotes from your reading!

12. Puzzle Piece Bookmarks:

Use old jigsaw puzzle pieces to create unique bookmarks. Paint or decorate the pieces, and then attach a ribbon or string to one end. This playful approach to bookmarks is not only eco-friendly but also adds a fun element to your reading sessions.

Section 6: Seasonal and Festive Bookmarks

13. Holiday Themed Bookmarks:

Get into the festive spirit by making holiday-themed bookmarks. Whether it’s Christmas, Halloween, or Valentine’s Day, create bookmarks that reflect the season. Use colored paper, stickers, or drawings to represent the holiday, making your reading experience more enjoyable during special times of the year.

14. Seasonal Nature Bookmarks:

Capture the essence of each season with bookmarks that reflect seasonal changes. Use pressed flowers for spring, colorful leaves for autumn, and snowflakes for winter. These bookmarks will not only be functional but also serve as a reminder of the beauty that each season brings.

Conclusion: Embrace Creativity in Reading

Incorporating adorable DIY bookmarks into your reading routine not only enhances your literary experience but also allows you to express your creativity. From whimsical designs to personalized touches, these bookmarks can transform a simple reading session into a delightful journey. So gather your materials, unleash your imagination, and make reading even more enjoyable with these charming creations.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
