Connecticut family vacations are always a blast!
However, with so many family-friendly activities to choose from, creating an ideal itinerary can be difficult.
This is why we’ve compiled a list of family-friendly activities in Connecticut.
Based on our own travel experiences, we are confident that our list will not lead you astray.
1. Mystic Seaport Museum—Mystic
You’re probably going to end up in Mystic because it has some of the best family hotels in Connecticut.
If so, we recommend taking a tour of the Mystic Seaport Museum, which explores the seaport village’s centuries-old maritime heritage.
Guests are invited to take a trip back in time by touring historic shipyards and boarding restored vessels.
Their cutting-edge exhibits complement these first-hand experiences.
After that, grab a bite to eat or go shopping for some fantastic souvenirs.
This relaxing day trip is ideal for families with children of all ages.
- Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History, New Haven
Since 1866, this museum has been collecting artifacts, so it’s no surprise that their ten scientific exhibits are so impressive.
From geology to human history, you’ll learn about many aspects of the natural world here.
But there’s more to the world than rocks and fossils.
Check out their Discovery Room for engaging hands-on activities.
Spending the day here is, in our opinion, one of the best things to do with kids when it’s raining.
This museum is equally appealing to teenagers as it is too small for children.
3. It Adventure Ropes Course—New Haven
One of the best family vacations we’ve ever had in Connecticut included a visit to the It Adventure Ropes Course, which offers nonstop thrills for young adventurers.
Young adventurers can have their fill of the four-level rope course, rock-wall climbing, bungee jumping, and other activities.
This safe, controlled environment is exciting, but it also helps to develop confidence and character.
Teens and tweens enjoy it here, but there are also activities for younger children.
4. The Mark Twain House & Museum—Hartford
Visit the mansion once owned by one of the country’s most famous figures.
The beautiful Victorian-style house alone is worth a visit.
However, this museum tour includes an entertaining guide, an introductory film, and informative exhibits.
After the tour, eat at the Nook Cafe and browse the souvenir shop.
This is simply one of our favorite family-friendly destinations.
Children who are old enough to enjoy a good story will enjoy this experience, as will their parents.
5. Ocean Beach Park, New London
Ocean Beach Park offers much more than simply sand and waves, which is what makes it one of the greatest family beaches in Connecticut.
There are plenty of fun things to do, like mini golf, rides, and a pool with a water slide.
So think of this as your go-to place if you’re searching for something a little extra or free kid-friendly beach activities.
Alternatively, eat at the delicious Sandbar Cafe, Boardwalk Galley, or Denny’s on the beach, or pack a picnic.
All ages of children are invited to play in the water.

For a really unique experience, board the USS Nautilus.
Both children and adults find it intriguing to examine the museum’s large collection of knowledge and items relating to submarines.

Children aged 3 and above will love the USS Nautilus Museum.

Visitors are invited to ride on a vintage steam-powered train and riverboat operated by the Valley Railroad Company.

A trip to Foxwoods, one of our favorite family resorts in Connecticut, wouldn’t be complete without taking the Highflyer Zipline from Fox Tower.

You may ride at any age, which may surprise you.
Only weight can limit thrill-seekers.
