Are you considering a trip with the family to New York state?

With its tall skyscrapers, well-known landmarks, and instructive institutions, New York City is undoubtedly a must-visit location for families.

But New York is more than just the hip, constantly-evolving, global city that never sleeps.

The state is filled with delightful and thrilling family excursions, from beaches to mountain retreats.

So, the next time you’re making travel plans, think about our list of the top New York family vacations.

  1. New York City

New York is bursting with exciting family vacation ideas, from mind-blowing interior attractions to historical and educational treasures.

Who Should Vacation Here

The Big Apple, with its world-class museums, cutting-edge attractions, and famous landmarks, provides families endless big city excitement.

Most of its monuments and museums are also very instructive, notably the Statue of Liberty and the American Museum of Natural History.

Parents will also enjoy the enthralling views and retail areas.

Whether traveling with teenagers or little children, you’ll have a blast in New York City.

Plus, it’s simple to discover kid-friendly lodging in New York City, so your trip will be fantastic.

Expert Tip

Taking youngsters to all of New York City’s most fantastic attractions can be challenging.

It could be a good idea to sign up for a guided tour because of this.

You can choose from various experiences that appeal to your family’s tastes, including walking tours, boat excursions, and cuisine tours.

Additionally, street sellers, particularly those who have Vendy Awards posted, often offer affordable meals that you can enjoy to save money on food.

  1. The Catskills

Are you looking for a weekend trip in New York with outdoor activities for kids?

You’ll love experiencing the Catskill Mountains’ natural beauties. I can assure you of that.

Who Should Vacation Here

Families who enjoy thrilling outdoor activities will find nirvana in the Catskill Mountains.

Families can go zip lining, boating, and hiking here in the summer.

Meanwhile, there are many options to snowboard and ski during the winter.

Expert Tip

Need a break from the Catskills’ nonstop outdoor adventures?

Fortunately, plenty of indoor activities in the region will please the whole family.

Visit Colony cafe and Levon’s Midnight Ramble for live music.

  1. Niagara Falls

A trip to Niagara Falls is a must-do on any list of the most special family-friendly activities in New York.

Who Should Vacation Here

Niagara Falls is undoubtedly a spectacular natural wonder that should be on every family’s bucket list, with its 188-foot waterfall towering over visitors.

Spend time exploring Niagara’s other family-friendly activities after admiring the breathtaking falls.

Some of our favorites are the Niagara Gorge Discovery Center, Niagara Aquarium, and Cave of the Winds.

Expert Tip

A Maid of the Mist boat excursion, which transports you and other tourists wearing ponchos to the base of the waterfalls, is the most excellent way to experience this natural beauty.

  1. Cooperstown

Cooperstown is a paradise of pleasure for families with baseball enthusiasts and outdoor adventurers.

Who Should Vacation Here

Cooperstown is a great vacation spot for families that love sports and is known for its all-America flair.

In truth, the town’s claim to fame is the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, with its treasures and fascinating displays.

In this hamlet, there are even occasionally held baseball clinics.

Of course, Cooperstown also has a ton of other family-friendly attractions, like the Farmers’ Museum and many outdoor activities.

Expert Tip

I advise staying at The Inn at Cooperstown to save money on lodging.

Along with having reasonable rates, it also offers roomy suites and a delicious continental breakfast.

The hotel is in a great position, close to many attractions and activities.

  1. Albany

There are numerous attractions in New York’s capital city to appeal to tourists of all ages and interests.

Who Should Vacation Here

The entire family will enjoy Albany, a stunning metropolitan destination full of indoor attractions and cultural gems.

Stop by Washington Park, the Nelson A. Rockefeller Empire State Plaza, and the New York State Capitol for a fantastic tour.

Additionally, Albany provides quick access to several family getaways close to New York.

Expert Tip

Visit Grappa ‘72 Ristorante to savor a variety of delectable Italian favorites.

This beautiful restaurant, one of the best-kept secrets in the city, dazzles guests with its tasteful furnishings and Italian wines.

  1. Hope Lake Lodge & Indoor Waterpark

Hope Lake is one of the most alluring New York holidays for families since it combines family entertainment with opulent lodging.

Enjoy a family vacation at Hope Lake Lodge if your group enjoys being on the water a lot.

It offers a spa, an adventure center, and an indoor water park.

There are two separate bedrooms and a living room, allowing parents some privacy while away.

Additionally, it has a spa bath that both adults and children will enjoy.

  1. Rochester

Rochester is undoubtedly one of the most incredible destinations to travel to in New York with kids because it offers many outdoor activities and museums.

Who Should Vacation Here

For urban vacations with young children, Rochester is a superb choice.

Numerous kid-friendly museums may be found in Rochester, including the Strong National Museum of Play and the George Eastman Museum.

The city has a wide range of outdoor attractions throughout the warmer months.

Did we also mention that the city offers an inexpensive family holiday spot?

Expert Tip

Remember to visit Seabreeze Amusement Park.

The amusement park features various attractions to keep everyone entertained for a few hours, including traditional kid-friendly rides and roller coasters.

  1. Gurney’s Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa

Gurney’s Montauk isn’t only called one of New York State’s best and most opulent family resorts for nothing.

Who Should Vacation Here

Families pining for a tranquil seaside getaway should consider Gurney’s Montauk.

While the parents indulge in the vital services of the full-service spa, the kids can play in the kids’ club.

The resort also offers on-site water activities if you’re in the mood for some excitement.

Buffalo is a bustling city filled with activities and attractions suitable for families.

The bustling Canalside district, with its Instagrammable public art, cruises, and paddle boat rentals, will be loved by kids and teenagers.

The Egyptian mummies and mastodon skeletons on display at the Buffalo Museum of Science will also astound everyone.

Expert Tip

For families, the Hampton Inn & Suites Buffalo Downtown is a great place to stay.

Take advantage of the indoor pool, complimentary hot breakfast, and convenient location.

After a hectic day in Buffalo, gather once more in a roomy hotel suite with a few queen beds.

  1. Long Island

Enjoy a luxurious beach getaway on Long Island to escape city life’s rush and bustle.

Who Should Vacation Here

Long Island is a charming and tranquil getaway for families because of its kilometers of white sand beaches.

The age-friendly Jones Beach State Park, which has a mini golf course, a pool, and shuffleboard sections, is a must-see nearby.

Don’t forget to stop by Ditch Plains Beach if you’re a surfer.

Expert Tip

You may find over 70 wineries and tasting rooms on Long Island.

The Long Island North Fork Wine Trail includes some of these wineries.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
