What Did Samo Students Do This Summer?

As the sun-soaked days of summer faded into memory, Samo students returned to campus with a wealth of new experiences under their belts. This year, internships took center stage, offering our bright young minds a taste of the professional world and a chance to apply their classroom knowledge in real-world settings.

From tech giants to local startups, Samo students spread their wings across various industries. One ambitious junior found herself coding alongside Silicon Valley’s finest, developing an app that promises to revolutionize urban transportation. Another budding entrepreneur spent his days pitching innovative ideas to venture capitalists, honing his business acumen with each presentation.

But it wasn’t all about the corporate world. Several students embraced their passion for social change, interning at non-profit organizations. One particularly inspiring story comes from a sophomore who dedicated her summer to an environmental conservation project, helping to protect endangered species in the Amazon rainforest.

The skills gained during these internships were as diverse as the experiences themselves. Students reported significant improvements in their:

Problem-solving abilities

Communication skills

Time management

Professional networking

Perhaps most importantly, these internships provided invaluable insights into potential career paths. As one senior put it, “My summer internship didn’t just teach me about the job; it taught me about myself and what I want for my future.”

The impact of these summer experiences extends far beyond the individual. As our students return to campus, they bring with them fresh perspectives and innovative ideas that enrich our entire academic community.

As we look towards the future, it’s clear that summer internships have become an integral part of the Samo experience. They offer a unique blend of learning, personal growth, and professional development that simply can’t be replicated in the classroom.

To all Samo students who embraced the challenge of a summer internship: we salute your initiative and look forward to seeing how these experiences shape your academic journey and beyond.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
