The University of Florida (UF) is taking a bold step toward making its prestigious education more accessible to students from all backgrounds with the launch of its Going Gator program. This innovative initiative provides a streamlined pathway for students who begin their academic journey at Florida’s community colleges to seamlessly transfer to UF.

Going Gator offers a host of benefits that address the unique challenges faced by community college students:

Clearer Transfer Pathways: Gone are the days of navigating confusing course requirements. Going Gator outlines specific program-based pathways that ensure credits earned at community colleges transfer directly and smoothly into UF’s corresponding programs.

Guaranteed Admission: Students who successfully complete the outlined program requirements at their community college are guaranteed admission to UF. This eliminates the uncertainty of the application process and provides a strong sense of security.

Financial Aid & Scholarship Opportunities: Going Gator students benefit from access to UF’s robust financial aid and scholarship programs, helping to mitigate the cost of higher education.

Personalized Support: From academic advisors to dedicated mentors, Going Gator students receive ongoing support and guidance throughout their journey, ensuring a successful transition to UF.

More Than Just a Transfer Program, a Transformative Opportunity

Going Gator represents more than just a simple transfer program. It signifies a commitment by UF to creating a more inclusive and accessible educational landscape for all Floridians. By breaking down barriers and providing clear pathways, the program empowers students from diverse backgrounds to pursue their academic dreams at one of the nation’s top universities.

Beyond the Classroom:

The benefits of Going Gator extend beyond academic success. The program fosters a sense of community among transfer students, creating a supportive environment where they can connect with peers and mentors who share similar experiences.

A Bright Future:

Going Gator has the potential to significantly impact the lives of students across Florida. By providing a clear, affordable, and accessible route to a world-class education, the program empowers aspiring Gators to reach their full potential and contribute to a brighter future for themselves and their communities. As UF President Kent Fuchs stated, “Going Gator is about opening doors, removing barriers, and ensuring that every student who dreams of a UF education has the opportunity to achieve it.”

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
