Clearing can be a whirlwind of emotions and decisions. Whether you’ve missed your grades or changed your mind about your course, this guide will help you navigate the process smoothly.

What to Do on Clearing Day

1.Stay calm and focused

Take deep breaths and remember: thousands of students go through this process successfully every year.

2.Check UCAS Track early

Log in as soon as possible to see if you’re eligible for Clearing.

3.Have essential information ready

Keep your UCAS ID, exam results, and personal statement handy.

4.Research available courses

Use the UCAS website and individual university pages to find suitable options.

5.Call universities promptly

Be prepared to talk about your grades, experience, and why you’re interested in the course.

6.Take notes during calls

Write down course details, offer conditions, and deadlines for each university you contact.

7.Consider your options carefully

    • Don’t rush into a decision. Weigh the pros and cons of each offer.

What Not to Do on Clearing Day

Don’t panic

Stress can lead to hasty decisions. Stay composed and think clearly.

Avoid letting others make decisions for you

While advice is valuable, the final choice should be yours.

Don’t ignore alternative paths

Consider gap years, apprenticeships, or reapplying if nothing feels right.

Don’t forget to update your personal statement

If applying for a different course, explain your interest and suitability.

Don’t miss deadlines

Keep track of when you need to respond to offers or submit applications.

Avoid applying for courses you’re not genuinely interested in

Choosing the wrong course can lead to dissatisfaction later.

Remember, Clearing is an opportunity, not a setback. Stay positive, be proactive, and trust in your abilities. With the right approach, you can find a course that aligns with your goals and sets you on the path to success.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
