Updated version of the personalized literacy solution gives educators a clearer view of what their students are reading and how their skills are developing

(Minneapolis, MN) February 2, 2017 — myON, a business unit of Capstone and leading provider of personalized literacy solutions in the K-12 marketplace, today announced the release of myON version 3.7. Made available to the public on December 22, 2016, myON 3.7 provides a variety of updated features aimed to give educators a clear view of what their students are reading and how their skills are developing.

With these changes to myON, standard alignments to titles on myON have been updated, and students can select the read-aloud speed of any book in the myON collection. In addition, the faculty reports have been re-envisioned to more quickly share the most important results, making the data in myON even more actionable by educators and administrators.

“We made these upgrades to help educators customize the monitoring tools they rely on to evaluate their student’s improvements and needs,” said Todd Brekhus, the president of myON. “We want to empower teachers and administrators with the information they need to instill a love of reading in their students.”

Major new features of myON include the following:

  • More Beginning Reader Support: Additional native benchmark items that use pictures and simple sentences track changes in students’ reading scores over time.
  • Alignments to Standards: When creating reading tasks, educators in faculty and administrator roles can use book alignments to state and national standards to connect titles to support curriculum goals.
  • Read-Aloud Speed: myON now includes the ability for students to select a read-aloud speed.
  • Report Refresh: New and improved educator reports include more details and highlight areas to monitor.

About Us

The Edvocate was created in 2014 to argue for shifts in education policy and organization in order to enhance the quality of education and the opportunities for learning afforded to P-20 students in America. What we envisage may not be the most straightforward or the most conventional ideas. We call for a relatively radical and certainly quite comprehensive reorganization of America’s P-20 system.

That reorganization, though, and the underlying effort, will have much to do with reviving the American education system, and reviving a national love of learning.  The Edvocate plans to be one of key architects of this revival, as it continues to advocate for education reform, equity, and innovation.
